Selection of Scholarship Recipients

Unfortunately, the ISF generally receives many more qualified applications than there is funding available. We continue to make every effort to raise additional funds to expand the number of scholarships available. In the meantime, scholarships are allocated as follows:

  1. Current recipients of ISF scholarships receive priority consideration for up to three years. However, current recipients must re-apply, and requalify each year.
  2. New, qualified applicants are sorted by category (Need or Merit), county, and grade level, and available funds are allocated using these and other criteria. If your child qualifies under multiple categories (for example, Need and Merit), he or she will be eligible under all which apply.

Some children who qualify but for whom there is insufficient funding will be placed on a waiting list. Applicant families must reapply every year. You are encouraged to try again the next year and we hope to be able to assist you at that time.

Families with Multiple Children
The ISF’s goal is to assist as many children as possible. Families applying for assistance for more than one child may receive assistance for any or all of their children, depending upon funding availability. Tuition assistance is child-specific—paid directly to the school to be applied towards the tuition of the child awarded the scholarship.

Families need only complete one application form. All children in a household can be included on a single application.

Length of Scholarship Assistance
ISF scholarships are renewable, subject to funding availability. Current ISF recipients receive priority consideration for three years, as long as they remain qualified. Students must reapply and requalify each year.

Use of the Scholarship
ISF funding can be applied against the tuition of any private school of your choice, so long as it is a California certified private school and is located within Contra Costa or Alameda counties.

Acceptance for ISF assistance is completely independent from acceptance to the private school of your choice. You must separately apply and your child be eligible for admission to the private school you have selected.

Your child does not need to already be attending or have been accepted to a private school in order to be considered for a scholarship. If you are interested in a private school education for your child, please begin to research schools you think would suit your child’s needs. The school choice you indicate on the Scholarship Application Form may be tentative, and you may choose another school at any time. You need only inform us of your final selection prior to the start of the academic school year.

Restrictions
ISF funding may be applied against tuition costs only. It cannot be used to offset transportation, books, uniforms, meals, tutoring, or other non-tuition fees.

Recipients of other third-party scholarship aid such as BASIC, CEO Oakland, FACE, The Guardsmen, etc. are not eligible for ISF assistance.

ISF funding may be combined with financial aid from the school attended. However, the ISF award will be limited to 75% of the actual tuition, or no more than $1,500. Thus, if a school provides financial aid which reduces the tuition obligation of the parents, ISF will cover no more than 75% of the discounted tuition amount, up to $1,500.
