Sr. Fellow Lawrence McQuillan, co-author of the report “Beyond Homeless: Good Intentions, Bad Outcomes, Transformative Solutions” is interviewed on This is America with Rich Valdés. Homelessness is regional and local issue, not a national issue says McQuillan. There is not enough money for treatment of addiction and too much money spent on housing, when really the issue is not a lack of homes, but mental health. McQuillan says many cities pay homeless people. For example in San Francisco people can qualify for up to $1000 per month in benefits if you claim to be homeless there. It's becoming a magnet to the problem in cities across California.
