Popular culture has long engaged in mythmaking about America’s Founders, often interpreting them as symbols that reflect contemporary concerns. Despite its novel artistry and casting, Hamilton: An American Musical for the most part conforms to this tradition in general and to the usual celebratory script about Alexander Hamilton in particular.
