It’s easy to imagine a scholar having conflicting feelings about popular entertainment that brings history to a large, enthusiastic audience but paints a distorted picture of real people and their times. Such feelings may be especially acute in the case of Hamilton: An American Musical, which excels at sacrificing historical accuracy while telling an engaging morality tale.
