Public school districts in the United States have some authority and control over how they operate, but factors such as federal collective-bargaining law constrain what they can do. A full-blown polycentric education system would enjoy major benefits, such as enabling districts to discover better ways to educate students and to customize educational content to better meet the needs of a diverse student body.
