Mancur L. Olson, Jr., (19321998) was Professor of Economics and Founder of the IRIS Center at the University of Maryland. he received his Ph.D. in economics from Oxford University where he was a Rhodes Scholar.
Professor Mancurs two best-known books, The Logic of Collective Action and The Rise and Decline of Nations, are seminal works in economics and political science. His last book, Power and Prosperity: Outgrowing Communist and Capitalist Dictatorships, was published posthumously.
The Olson Award from the American Political Science Association, for the best Ph.D. dissertation in Political Economy, is named in his honor.
