Alan J. Lizotte (1948 2022) was Dean of the School of Criminal Justice at the University at Albany. He has served as Director of the Hindelang Criminal Justice Research Center, Professor in the School of Criminal Justice, and Executive Director of the Consortium for Higher Education Campus Crime Research at the University at Albany.
With primary areas of research in criminology, social problems and juvenile delinquency, he received his Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Illinois, and he has taught at Rutgers University, Indiana University, Emory University, and the University of Michigan. A contributor to eight volumes, Professor Lizotte has been a consultant to the New York State Police, Illinois Law Enforcement Commission, U.S. Department of Justice, and National Institute on Drug Abuse.
He is the author of the books, Handbook on Crime and Deviance (with Marvin Krohn and Gina Penly Hall) and Gangs and Delinquency in Developmental Perspective (with Terrence Thornberry, Marvin Krohn, Carolyn Smith and Kimberly Tobin). His scholarly articles and reviews have appeared in the American Journal of Sociology, American Sociological Review, Crime and Delinquency, Crime, Law and Social Change, Criminology, Journal of Criminal Justice, Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology, Journal of Drug Issues, Justice Quarterly, Law and Contemporary Problems, Law and Policy Quarterly, and Social Problems.
