WASHINGTON, D.C., July 28, 2008Today, Independent Institute Research Fellow Stephen P. Halbrook filed a lawsuit in Washington D.C. on behalf of plaintiff Dick Anthony Heller further challenging the Districts restrictive firearms laws.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Mr. Heller last month when he challenged the Districts handgun ban in District of Columbia v. Heller. Halbrook, who represented 300 members of Congress in the case, is now taking the issue one step further. Filed on behalf of Heller and co-plaintiff Absalom F. Jordan, Jr., the lawsuit argues that the District remains in violation of the June 26 decision on several counts and that it is making self-defense next to impossible for residents.
Also serving as counsel in several cases recently filed by organizations such as the National Rifle Association, Dr. Halbrook, author of the recently released The Founders' Second Amendment, is available for interviews.
