UpdateTuesday, April 5th. Christopher Briggs appears on The Ingraham Angle on the Fox News Channel to discuss the 12th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act.
Washington, DCThe father of a little girl twice denied coverage for cancer under Obamacare mounted a riveting, moving opposition Tuesday on Capitol Hill to House Democrats proposal to impose single-payer healthcare on the country.
Tuesday, House Democrats of the Committee on Oversight and Reform held historic hearings under title Examining Pathways to Universal Health Coverage. Christopher B. Briggs, Publications and Public Affairs Counsel at the Independent Institute, was selected by the Republican minority as its lone patient witness.
The most serious problem with Obamacare we faced was not high pricesas terrifying as those were, said Briggs. The most serious problem we faced was what those high prices mean in any government-controlled enterprisethat were on the path to scarcity. Which we found out when our daughter was twice denied coverage for cancer under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
But single payer, continued Briggs, wont fix the problem. And heres why. Bad ideas dont get better just because you make them bigger. They get worse. Under single payer, my daughter will be everybodys daughter. And millions of moms and dads will also watch the bureaucracies be unable to deliver life-saving care in time.
The answer is a repeal of the ACA and the restoration of actuarially sound insurance products curated to individual needs. There is no other way, said Briggs.
