After 50 years of the Mont Pelerin Society, we now can attest to the wisdom of its founders, who sought an intellectual rather than a propagandistic vehicle “to contribute to the preservation and improvement of the free society.” Although it is impossible to say precisely where the world would have gone without it, the Society certainly kept the candle of classical liberal scholarship burning thoughout the darkness of the post-World War II era.
