For more than 20 years, the Independent Institute has sponsored a series of essay contests in order to encourage new and upcoming scholars to explore key topics of liberty. The Independent Review Essay Contest began in 2023 is now accepting 2025 submissions with a deadline of May 15, 2025. The Sir John M. Templeton Fellowships Essay Contests were offered annually from 2008 to 2010. The Olive W. Garvey Fellowships were offered biennially from 1974 until 2007.
