This Capitol Hill event focuses on one of the most pressing topics of our time—the Covid lockdowns and the future of educational freedom in the West. Hosted by Senator Rand Paul, Dr. Scott Atlas and education expert and author James Tooley shed much-needed light on the harms inflicted on our children through the lockdowns and mandates and how the virus exposed the deep-rooted problems in America's state-run education system.
Sr. Fellow James Tooley, author of Really Good Schools: Global Lessons for High-Caliber, Low-Cost Education is interviewed on the Michael Berry radio show. In poor urban and rural areas around the world, children in low-cost private schools outperform those in government (or public) schools. And the schools do so for a fraction of the per-pupil cost. These ideas are now emerging in schools in the US as parents see the indoctrination of politics into their childrens' schools.
High-caliber, low-cost schools are in demand in some of the poorest areas of the world. These schools are outperforming government schools and are organized by entrepreneurs and parents. Senior Fellow James Tooley speaks with John Batchelor about his new book Really Good Schools: Global Lessons for High-Caliber, Low-Cost Education and why this revolution may be coming to America.
In this fascinating Independent Conversation, world-renowned education scholar and best-selling author Dr. James Tooley is interviewed by Independent Institute Executive Director Dr. Graham H. Walker on Dr. Tooley's new Independent book, Really Good Schools: Global Lessons for High-Caliber, Low-Cost Education, and the issues of educational choice, opportunity, and quality, including the worldwide development of low-cost, private schools for the poor and their relevance to America.

Without numbers, a great many myths about education and educational provision would go unchallenged. Before Independent Institute Senior Fellow James N. Tooley
started his work (with colleagues) on low-cost private schools, the accepted wisdom was that only government education could provide for the poor in developing countries. In this TEDx talk Professor Tooley explores these myths and shares his findings.
Professor Tooley has published widely on the role of government in education. His particular focus is on the phenomenon of low-cost private schools in developing countries.
